Becoming parents is one of the most beautiful experiences in life. A baby brings so much joy and truly completes a family. However, taking care of them can be quite challenging, especially when it comes to mealtime. Feeding a baby often turns into a messy situation. They might spill food everywhere or even try to chew on the edge of the dining table, which can make things even more difficult for parents. Dealing with these little challenges during mealtime can be exhausting and stressful, adding to the already tough job of caring for a baby.
Berlyn Haughton, the owner of Table Tyke, has introduced a simple solution for all parents. Her product is a multifunctional silicone placemat that has a half-an-inch taller table-edge bumper that not only stops kids from teething on the edge of a table but also creates a barrier, avoiding the spilling of food. It also has loops to help fold the mat before storing it and can also be washed easily in a dishwasher for further use. Moreover, her company has also introduced Table Tyke for adults to help in baking, crafting, and potting.
The owner came on Shark Tank to request $100K in exchange for 10% of her company. She also presented the sharks with samples of her Table Tyke to impress the judges. Let’s see if she got the deal or not.
Table Tyke Net Worth Shark Tank Update
Berlyn was looking for an investment of $100K in exchange for 10% equity in the company. At the time of the episode, she valued her company at $1 million. Berlyn did not secure a deal with any of the sharks, so the company’s net worth remained at $1 million. After the show was aired, the company experienced a good boost in exposure. As per my rough estimate, the current net worth of Table Tyke in 2024 is around $2.5 million.

The Owner’s Backstory
Berlyn related that whenever she went outside with her son for a meal, he always used to chew on the germ-infected dining tables which seriously concerned her. She also consulted her friends and they also mentioned the same issue. Even one of her friend’s babies knocked her tooth out while teething on it. This led to the idea of the creation of a mate that is spill-free and can also provide a bumper for the baby to chew on, creating Table Tyke.
Initial Pitch
The owner came on the show to seek $100K for a 10% equity stake. Her product is a multifunctional mat that is used to stop spillage and chewing the edges of the table by the kids. It also comes in XL size for adults to help with their daily work including baking and crafting.
Queries about the Product
Cuban asked the first question about her sales. Berlyn related that she launched her business at the end of 2020 and made $20K in sales. In the successive year, she made $24K in sales without any social media help, which was useless. In 2020, her sales were just under $100K and this year they are projecting to make $200K in sales.
The shark also wanted to know why she considers that social media has no influence on her sales. She highlighted that over 60% of her sales last year happened in the fourth quarter after she started using TikTok.
Herjavec was curious to know if her product was sustainable enough to become a large business. The owner replied that in comparison to other mats in the market, hers is very much sustainable and even her own personal used one is still perfect to be used after eight years.
However, Herjavec didn’t like the answer as he thought it would make the product a once-in-a-lifetime purchase.
Cuban then inquired about the cost it takes her to make the product and its selling price. The product costs her $4.90 to make and it then sells for $24.99.
Lori asked if she runs the business by herself. She replied in the affirmative and highlighted that she is a one-man army.
She also added that currently, she has introduced her product into 80 boutiques around the US and her retail journey has just started a year ago. Additionally, she wants to find a PR company and get on BuzzFeed.
Shark’s Response and Final Decision
Kevin was the first shark to drop the deal as he thought that she had to work on social media to sell her product instead of the PR system and also, he was not fit for the business.
Cuban also passed the deal as he thought the business was not fit for him to invest in.
Lori highlighted that Berlyn has to work on the business on her own and thus she didn’t need an investor at this point.
Finally, Corcoran and Herjavec also backed out as they thought she didn’t need an investor besides social media and her business was also not scalable enough for them to invest in it. Thus, she left the show without any deal on her hands.
Product’s Availability
Although Berlyn did not secure a deal, her sales surprisingly increased afterward. She had to rush and place multiple urgent orders with her manufacturer to keep up with the demand. Her products are available both on Amazon and on The Table Tyke website. Even the customer reviews have been very positive, and the product sold out quickly on Amazon after the episode appeared on TV.
Conclusion
Despite not getting a deal on Shark Tank, Berlyn saw a major increase in sales for her Table Tyke product. She had to place urgent orders with her manufacturer to meet the growing demand. The multifunctional silicone placemat, designed to prevent spills and protect kids from chewing on table edges, quickly sold out on Amazon and continues to receive positive customer reviews. Table Tyke is available on both Amazon and the company’s website now.
Hey there, it’s Andaleb Youns. I am a freelance content writer and am currently pursuing a BS in English Language and Literature. I have expertise in writing Blog Posts, social media content, and copywriting. I know how it feels to be a student and still be dependent on parents to fulfill even basic daily needs. This realization became apparent while watching Shark Tank. Although I started watching this show out of boredom, it proved to be an inspirational show. The show made me realize the importance of hard work, being independent, and of having a business of my own. I still look forward to it for entertaining and inspirational content.
