Bacon is a popular food enjoyed by many people, particularly within various communities, including Christians. Its rich and savory flavor comes from the fat it contains, making it a delicious treat for those who love it. However, while bacon can be tasty, it can also lead to health problems. Eating too much bacon may contribute to issues such as high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels.
Marvin and Aleah Montague, the owners of Meat the Mushroom, have introduced an alternative to the fatty bacon that tastes exactly like it. Their product which looks like bacon is basically a mushroom that tastes, looks, and smells like bacon. Their product, Shroomacon, is made of only five ingredients among which mushrooms are the main one. Moreover, it is not made of soy and it is not a processed food item, making it a healthy choice.
The owners came on Shark Tank to request $150K in exchange for 7.5% of their company. They also presented the sharks with their tasty mushroom-based bacon called Shroomacons. Let’s explore their journey on the show.
Meat the Mushroom Net Worth Shark Tank Update
Marvin and Aleah were looking for an investment of $150k in exchange for 7.5% equity in the company. At the time of the episode, they valued their company at $2 million. Marvin and Aleah successfully secured a deal with Kevin and Lori for an investment of $150k for 33.3% equity in the company. The investment adjusted the company’s net worth to around $450k. After the show was aired, the company experienced a good boost in exposure. As per my rough estimate, the current net worth of Meat the Mushroom in 2024 is around $1.8 million.

The Owners’ Backstory
Aleah related that she started working as a Facebook ads manager and Marvin was in the car-selling industry. He then moved into the mover business where he met Aleah and they got married.
Then Marvin was diagnosed with enlarged heart muscle and he had to turn vegan. After eight years when he reproached his doctor his heart issue and asthma completely disappeared. He then got to know the importance of being vegan and decided to help his black community by introducing plant-based products to them. He then started a restaurant for them but after he shifted to a product-based business to help the whole world with different health problems.
Initial Pitch
The husband-wife duo came on the show to seek $150K for a 7.5% equity stake. Their company offers crispy and mushroom-based bacon that can be eaten even by heart patients. Moreover, their product is not processed and it is made only from five ingredients. It is also non-GMO and can be cooked in an air fryer, oven, and skillet.
Queries about the Product
Kevin asked the first question about the kind of mushroom they use to make the Shroomacons. The couple replied simultaneously that they use king oyster mushrooms to make the bacon.
The shark also asked about the cost of making a single packet of their product. Aleah highlighted that it costs them $2.09 to make a single packet and they are confident to lower the cost to $1.75 too.
She also added that they sell the product for $8.99 in retail and for $4.40 to the distributors.
Daymond inquired about their side hustles. Marvin pointed out that both he and Aleah have left their jobs and are solely focused on the Meat the Mushroom business.
Cuban was curious to know about their sales. Aleah highlighted that from May 2021 to December of the same year, their sales were $38K. In 2022, their sales were $86K, and currently, their sales are more than $238K, which makes their lifetime sales up to $360K.
Their medium of selling the product is 93% direct to consumers and they have just recently launched in stores too.
The guest shark, Daniel, asked how they were paying their bills. She related that they had sold their car and had moved in with her mother-in-law to run the business full-time. Moreover, their daughter is also suffering from Down syndrome.
Shark’s Response and Final Decision
Kevin was the first to offer them $150K for 33.3% of their company.
Cuban then highlighted that he is already invested in Unreal Dali, which is a plant-based meat product. Thus, he can’t invest in theirs which otherwise will be a conflicting deal.
Daymond backed out as well as he thinks their business already has a lot of challenges to tackle.
Afterward, Kevin made a slight change to his offer and pitched a deal of $150K for 34% equity in their company.
Lori then showed concern about the varying size of their product.
The guest shark pointed out that Kevin had already given them a better offer, so he couldn’t invest in their business.
Lori then offered them $150K for a 33.3% equity stake.
Aleah then counter-offered with both the sharks to become partners and invest $150K for 25% in their company.
Kevin highlighted that will be partnered with Lori on the deal but for 33.3% equity only.
The owners then counter-offered them for the second time and pitched a deal of $200K for 33.3% equity and also helped them out with P.O.S. Kevin was not happy with the counter-offer.
Finally, they accepted Lori and Kevin’s offer of $150K for 33.3% equity in their company and left the set with a deal on their hands.
Product’s Availability
After getting a deal on Shark Tank, the couple made a successful journey on the practical horizon as well. After their appearance on the show, they made over $60K in sales in just one month. Even in an interview, they highlight that “We are working hard to get our product into grocery stores and restaurants nationwide but more than that, we want to continue to be a resource to anyone looking to transform their lives by making healthier eating choices.”
Their product is now available in stores as well including Woodmans, Mom’s Organic Market, and several independent health food stores. The product is also available on the Meat the Mushroom website.
Conclusion
Marvin and Aleah, founders of Meat the Mushroom, successfully secured a deal on Shark Tank, partnering with Kevin and Lori for $150K in exchange for 33.3% equity in their company. Their mushroom-based bacon alternative, Shroomacon, is a healthy, non-processed, plant-based product that offers a flavorful substitute for traditional bacon.
Following their appearance on the show, their sales increased, and their product is now available in various grocery stores and health markets, with plans to expand nationwide.
