We all love gardening but this love factor is not only coming out of habit but also the need to grow healthy plants to fulfill our aesthetic and nutrition purpose. However, in search of healthy alternatives to the market of synthetic products, we still are relying on chemicals to keep out insects from our hard work. Thus, harmful insecticides are a necessary evil nowadays and we, to protect our plants, are in fact making our children and pets vulnerable to its harmful effects.
Vanessa Dawson, the CEO of Arber, is resolving this issue with her organic insecticide. It is the world’s first formula with natural ingredients for the wellness of plants. This formula can be used on indoor and outdoor lawns, flowers, and vegetable gardens. It’s not only simple to use but also it’s safe for both plants, animals, and humans’ lives. Thus, it’s safe to say that it can help reduce further pollution and environmental degradation.
The owner of Arber Company is on Shark Tank and she is offering 4% equity for $500K. She even presented her whole insecticide kit with baby plants to approve the request from the judges. Let’s see if she got the deal or not.
Arber Net Worth Shark Tank Update
Vanessa was looking for an investment of $500k in exchange for 4% equity in the company. At the time of the episode, she valued her company at $12.5 million. Vanessa did not secure a deal with any of the Sharks. After the show was aired, the company experienced a big increase in website traffic, sales, and social media exposure. As per my rough estimate, the current net worth of Arber in 2024 is around $6 million.

Vanessa Dawson’s Backstory
Vanessa was concerned with the harmful effect of chemical insecticides on her pet and children and especially when she became a mother herself this issue was her top concern. Her focus shifted to this side because of her stressful circumstances after being a mother and she decided to busy herself with gardening. However, her life took a turn when she realized to taken the burden of creating a healthy alternative to the chemical-based insecticide.
She came up with Arber which is not only scientifically proven to be better at work than other alternatives but also made of completely organic and safe-to-use ingredients.
Initial Pitch
Vanessa came on Shark Tank with samples of her product full kit along with a baby plant for every judge on the set. She requested $500K for a 4% equity stack. The kit consisted of 3 holistic bottles with a spraying kit and measuring cup alongside the instruction manual. The judges were impressed by the quality of the product and its presentation. 1 bottle is up to 16 ounces and according to her, it will last a consumer for a whole year. She also claimed that the active ingredients used in her product are not available in any other insecticide in the market.
Queries about the Product
Initially when Vanessa revealed that the product price ranges from $21-25$ Daymond John expressed a sudden surprise on the cost of each bottle individually. Vanessa answered the expression by telling them that the organic formula is highly concentrated.
Candace asked them about the medium of selling the specific product. Vanessa revealed that her formula is only two years old and she is successful in launching the product in 3,000 Walmart in just 3 months. Furthermore, she even launched her product at 1,700 Target.
Leary then jumped in the conversation and asked regarding her sales last year and her plans for this year. She confidently answered that her 2022 Revenue was $2.7 million and now she is expecting to make $4.5-5 million this year. However, she is not in profit till now.
Leary then straight came to the point by asking about her margins. She said that her company has 50 to 53% margins blended across all channels. She highlighted that it cost her around 7 to 10$ to make and selling it cost her around 9 to 10$. This was counter-answered by Lori and Daymond as not a good margin for the company.
Even Mark Cuban highlighted that such margins along with the cost in educating the customer and branding resulted in loss for many entrepreneurs. So, she needs $9M to get going with the company she founded.
Shark’s Response and Final Decision
Mark Cuban after hearing about her margins showed concerns regarding her static margins with time. So, he replied in negation by presenting himself as the chaser of the bottom line eventually dropping out.
Candace started by praising the packaging as it reminded her of a gift. However, she highlighted concerns regarding the margins as well alongside education of the consumer regarding the formula. She, like the Cuban, decided to drop out.
Daymond then appreciated her opportunistic vision and her trying out every possible path to grow her company but he backed himself out. Nevertheless, he encouraged Vanessa to seek other paths too.
Lori more or less like Candace loved her idea of organic means to grow plants but she found the investment very high compared to the 4% equity provided.
Finally, Leary started off with suspicions about what he would get after investing $500K. However, Vanessa’s mentioning of royalty and her idea of diversifying her company in retailing 50% of her company, 25% in wholesale e-commerce, and growing her company D to C to 25-30%, grabbed his attention. Leary counter offered $500K for a 5% equity along with a royalty of $1 per unit until $1.5M is paid.
She tried to decrease the royalty by 50 cents per unit but Leary answered by saying that her retail only amounts to zero. Even Cuban and Candace tried to persuade her by highlighting that she would make more money from this offer and that she would also have an in-house team. However, she passed on the offer.
Product’s Availability
Despite not securing a deal on Shark Tank, Vanessa’s business has gained huge attention. Following the show’s appearance, Arber experienced an increase in website traffic, increased sales, and a notable rise in social media visibility. Arber’s natural compounds, known for their effectiveness and safety for both children and animals, have helped the brand stand out in the market.
It is currently available at https://growarber.com/. The website highlights that 6,500+ Digital and physical retail outlets carry Arber, making effective organic products more accessible nationwide for consumers and 70K+ gardeners have joined their movement to grow a better world together.
Conclusion
Vanessa made a strong impact on the audience by presenting an organic and pioneering product in the field of plant sustenance in Shark Tank. However, she was unable to convince the judges due to her very low margins and sales issues. Nevertheless, its safe to say that her company is still performing well.
